Washington, D.C. — States United Action (SUA) and Fund for States (FFS) today launched a project to help voters learn more about their state’s chief election official and their state’s elections ahead of November. The project features the secretaries of state of Arizona, Michigan, and Nevada.

Secretaries of state have crucial roles and responsibilities in election administration—they oversee testing and certification of voting systems, provide guidance and support to local election officials, and engage with the community and voters to ensure voters have the information they need to cast their ballots.

“Secretaries of state work together with state and local officials to make sure every election is free, fair, and secure. They’re the guardians of our democracy—and the best sources of nonpartisan, truthful information about our elections,” said Lizzie Ulmer, SVP of Strategy and Communication at States United Action. “In this environment, it’s more critical than ever that voters know who their secretaries are, so they can be sure they’re getting the facts from trusted professionals.”

The project includes a series of videos featuring the secretaries of state of Arizona, Michigan, and Nevada.

  • “My Watch” featuring Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes
    • Fontes: “Having worked at every level of our election system, I’m committed to its integrity. With officials and staff across the state, we’re ready.”
  • “Our Democracy” featuring Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson
    • Benson: “Together we’ve modernized our voter registration system, recruited 90,000 new poll workers, expanded vote by mail and launched early voting. We’ve strengthened the system to make it secure, transparent, and accessible.”
  • “No State Like Nevada” featuring Nevada Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar
    • Aguilar: “Our system of checks and balances works. And when you vote, remember to thank a poll worker. Nevada’s democracy wouldn’t work without them.”

“Ahead of November, every eligible voter should know where to go for election information, and who they can trust to get the facts. Secretaries of state are dedicated, trusted messengers who can help make sure this is a safe, secure, and transparent election,” said Kim Rogers, founder of Fund for States.
