Gableman v. Eric Genrich
STATE OF WISCONSIN CIRCUIT COURT WAUKESHA (CASE NO. 2021-CV-001710)
In This Resource
In May 2021, Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos announced a new investigation into the 2020 presidential election. The investigation was led by Michael Gableman, a retired judge who has publicly suggested that the 2020 election was “stolen.”
In September 2021, States United and Law Forward wrote a letter to county and municipal election officials outlining the numerous security risks and legal violations implicated by third-party election reviews like the one in Wisconsin.
In October 2021, Gableman served subpoenas demanding records and interviews with officials from the state and from five Wisconsin cities.
In November 2021, Gableman filed a Petitions for Writ of Attachment targeting Mayor Genrich and several other officials, seeking to compel enforcement of the subpoenas.
In January 2022, States United and Law Forward filed a motion for sanctions.
In June 2022, States United and Law Forward filed a brief on behalf of the City of Green Bay, joined by Madison, Milwaukee, and Racine, requesting all Gableman’s petitions be denied.
States United, along with Law Forward and Stafford Rosenbaum, served as pro-bono counsel to the City of Green Bay in response to those subpoenas.
In August 2022, the subpoenas were withdrawn and the case was dismissed in its entirety.
