Rule of Law

The states are power centers in our democracy, with the authority to set and enforce laws that work for their communities. They’re responsible for the health, well-being, and safety of their people. They also keep the federal government in check when it tries to exceed its limited authority under the Constitution.

The balance between state and federal power is currently facing a historic test. When the federal government abuses its power, states have legal authority to challenge this overreach. They can defend their authority to govern and protect the freedoms of their residents.

Upholding the rule of law also means making sure there are consequences for those who undermine it. We fight for that accountability through litigation, investigations, bar complaints, and other advocacy.
