MIDTERM UPDATE: Election Deniers Lose Ground in Statewide and Congressional Races Across the Country

States United Action Releases Latest ElectionDeniers.org Data; Election Deniers Lost in 2 in 5 Races Called So Far

WASHINGTON —States United Action today released an updated landscape of the election denial movement following the November general election. Election Deniers lost ground in this year’s midterm elections, with fewer candidates on track to hold statewide and congressional offices next year. This tracking represents only partial results, as votes are still being counted in several states.

“Election denial didn’t define election night—voters did. After months of reckless, unsubstantiated claims to undermine trust in our elections, Trump said he’ll respect the results. That’s thanks to the free, fair, secure election run by our state and local officials, and the decisive margins that came with millions of Americans making their voices heard,” said Kelly Rader, Research Director at States United Action. “This year’s election results mark a major setback for the Election Denier movement, but the threat to our democracy didn’t disappear overnight. Election Deniers nationwide still hold various positions of power heading into 2027, and states will continue to serve as a backstop against efforts to erode our democracy.”

The Election Denier landscape, as of November 4, 5 p.m. ET:

  • Election Deniers were on the ballot in races for statewide or congressional office in 86% of states (43/50).
  • Based on results so far, Election Deniers will hold at least 41 fewer statewide or congressional seats going into 2027 than they held in 2026.
  • Election Deniers ran in 194 statewide and congressional races on the general election ballot and were defeated in 2 in 5 races called so far (70/173).
    • Election Deniers ran in 31 out of the 94 races for the statewide offices that oversee elections—governor, attorney general, and secretary of state. They were defeated in 21 of the 30 races that have been called so far (70%).
      • Governor: Election Deniers ran in 16 races and were defeated in 11 of them (69%).
      • Attorney General: Election Deniers ran in 9 races and were defeated in 5 of the races called so far (56%). One race with an Election Denier candidate remains in Kansas.
