Plus: Trump faces new charges. 🗳️
Published: 7.28.23
Our democracy relies on every voice being heard and every vote being counted. And it is stronger when every voter has the accommodations they need for equal access to the ballot box. Nearly 16 million Americans with disabilities voted in 2022, despite encountering more than twice as many difficulties when voting as voters without disabilities, according to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission.
During Disability Pride Month, we celebrate Americans with disabilities and honor their contributions to our democracy. This week marks 33 years since the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law. The ADA and other landmark pieces of legislation have helped safeguard the rights of voters with disabilities, setting American democracy on a course to better represent its people.

- Federal prosecutors filed additional charges against Trump in the case alleging he mishandled classified documents. An updated indictment accuses him of asking a staff member at his Florida club to delete security footage to obstruct investigators. It also accuses him of mishandling a top-secret military document, reportedly about Iran.
- Former Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani admitted he made false statements about two Georgia election workers. The workers, Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, were relentlessly harassed in 2020 after Trump and Giuliani claimed they were manipulating ballots. They are suing Giuliani for defamation.
- The Arizona Supreme Court denied Kari Lake’s attempt to skip a step in her latest effort to overturn her loss in last year’s election for governor. Lake has lost repeatedly in court as she has contested the 2022 election results.
